ABOUT
Andrew Petillo is a street photographer, carpenter, and skateboarding documentarian based in New Jersey. His work captures the peculiarities of modern existence, moments of unintentional beauty, and the artistry and humanity found in between.
At just five years old, Andrew received two items that would shape his life: a skinny, rectangular plastic camera and a K-mart skateboard. Both became tools of exploration, and from that point on, he was rarely seen without a point-and-shoot camera and a board in hand.
By age 14, he had gotten his hands on a video camera and began filming friends, and by 16 he was making a name for himself as a regular contributor to 411 Magazine. After graduating high school in 2003, Andrew moved to South Philadelphia where he met pro-skater Fred Gall. This opened the door to his role as a staff filmer at Habitat Skateboards from 2004 to 2010. During this time, he travelled the world with the Habitat and Alien Workshop teams and was a primary filmer on the Inhabitants (2007) and Origin (2010) skate videos, along with countless other videos.
From 2010 to 2014, Andrew worked as a freelance filmer while living in Newark, NJ, where he became a regular at Shorty’s, an iconic DIY skatepark that has since been demolished. Around 2014, he shifted focus, helping manage his family business before transitioning to his current career as a carpenter, specializing in cabinetry and high-end event marketing installations.
Throughout it all, photography has remained a cornerstone of Andrew’s creative life. In 2014, he acquired his first Leica and spent nearly a decade dedicated to analog photography before venturing into digital in 2023.
